Who am I?
I am a beginner in this extraordinary hobby. I became interested in Astronomy whilst collecting a part-work that built up an Orrery from 52 weekly magazines. I purchased my first telescope, a Meade ETX 125PE in March 2009, and was quickly fascinated with observing Saturn and the Moon. I had purchased the Celestron NexImage as part of the package and was soon using this to take images of these objects. It was shortly after this that I started to realise the other wonders of the sky, the so called Deep Sky objects. Images available on the web, taken with relatively in-expensive equipment were stunning. I was hooked, I wanted to take similar images to those. That was when the fun and frustration started. It was only then that I realised how steep the learning curve was for this hobby. My photography skills were (and still are) very limited. The best I could do was to press the shutter button with a compact camera in full auto. Operating a camera in manual was unheard of. Regarding finding my way around the sky was entertaining. I knew the plough, but that was about it. There are lots of sites around the web on imaging various Deep Sky objects. However I found many of them to be difficult for a beginner understand. Therefore, I decided to put this web site together with information from a beginner on how to do the various activities like obtain focus, take the images, stack the images etc. I can not guarantee that the information contained within this site is correct, but I have found that they work and produce some sort of reasonable result. |
